Parents Without Partners is where you meet people and make friends
STARTING A NEW BRANCHAt present Parents Without Partners does not have a Branch in all areas of the state where single parents live. If there is a group of you willing to act as a provisional committee, then we could discuss strategies for developing a provisional branch in your area. PROVISIONAL COMMITTEEYou will need volunteers who are eligible single parents who would be willing to form a provisional committee. (The positions in BOLD type are the minimum you will need to start a Provisional Branch and these members need to join PWP as full members for the provisional committee to be formed.) You need eight committed people to form a provisional committee. Given the considerable number of single parents in the community – just a story in the local paper and maybe a spot on the local community radio – you will quickly form a core group to start with.
IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO FORM A PROVISIONAL COMMITTEE You may not initially have anyone experienced in the PWP administration system and may not be able to form a Provisional Committee as outline above, then there is another approach that may help you get started. Become a District Sub-committee of an existing PWP Branch. The existing branch take care of the administration & financial management aspects, ideally with at least two of your local people being mentored in how to do this in the future. It is highly desireable that one of your sub-committee members regularly attend the main Branch monthly committee meetings. Meanwhile your District Sub-committee would comprise of the following positions:-
You would meet regularly, at least monthly, plan your program and strategies well ahead. The people in these positions would liaise with the elected Directors of the main Branch committee and your program would be included in the main Branches program of activities and be published in the Sole Parent and the PWP NSW Outlook e-Newsletter. But you would all need to be full members of PWP NSW Inc. Over time you will learn the PWP system and be able to recruit additional people to form a Provisional Branch and eventually receive your Charter as a full Branch of Parents Without Partners NSW Inc. OTHER POSITIONS FOR A SUCCESSFUL BRANCH COMMITTEE
PWP Committees can vote to co-opt new members to the committee for special roles such as specific function coordination and to serve on sub-committee such as marketing, membership and programs. Often a Branch committee becomes larger in the year after the elections as additional people are coopted to the committee.
